Day-long volunteer event benefits more than 100 elderly and low-income Phoenix residents

WHAT:
It’s the Foundation for Senior Living’s 16th annual “Evaporative Cooler Startup Day,” an annual spring event that teams up HVAC industry volunteers with Gateway Community College students in a one-day effort to aid elderly and low income individuals. Volunteers will spend the day cleaning, repairing, and sometimes replacing their evaporative coolers in preparation for the hot summer months.
COOL FOR ALL:
“Evaporative Cooler Startup Day” was created by the Foundation for Senior Living to provide a unique opportunity for volunteers to assist low income and elderly individuals, while also offering college students a way to acquire hands-on training from HVAC industry experts. Sponsors for this one-day effort include the City of Phoenix, Gateway Community College, Air Conditioning Contractors of America and the Arizona Heat Pump Council.
WHEN/WHERE:
Saturday, April 1, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Volunteers will meet at a central location and disperse to homes throughout the City of Phoenix. To get a list of home addresses anytime during this event, please call Katie Smith on her mobile at (602) 312-7440. She can direct you to home locations throughout the City of Phoenix.

Low income and elderly individuals who are interested in applying for the 2007 “Evaporative Cooler Startup Day” can call (480) 784-1900 x10. Qualified applicants must be City of Phoenix residents.
