FIRST CLASS COMPLETES NEW HEALTH SCIENCE PROGRAM
PHOENIX, Arizona (March 15, 2006) – GateWay Community College today announced the graduation of the first class of students completing the Electroneurodiagnostic (END) Certificate Program will be held on Thursday, March 23 on GateWay’s campus at 6:30 p.m. following the student’s final class session.
GateWay Community College, in partnership with Mayo Clinic, Banner Health, Sun Health, and other local healthcare facilities, offers the END Certificate Completion Program specifically focusing on preparing students to perform Electroencephalograms (EEGs). The 20-credit program is achievable within a 10 month period of time and includes classroom instruction and experiences performing tests, under supervision, at clinical sites at local hospitals.
Electroneurodiagnostic technology is the scientific field devoted to the recording and study of the electrical activity of the brain and nervous system. The most well known procedure is the Electroencephalogram (EEG) which specifically records the on-going electrical activity of the brain and assists in the diagnosis of a variety of neurological problems.
There is a national shortage of Electroneurodiagnostic technicians across the country and the need is great in Maricopa County. After completing this END Certificate Program, students may elect to continue their studies in the related fields of polysomnography (sleep studies) and electromyography (peripheral nerve activity).
