PHOENIX, Arizona (December 21, 2006) – GateWay Community College, in direct response to industry and student demand, has announced the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) program will be offering a new nine month Residential Air Conditioning certificate program. Additionally, the college is offering a new Electronic Gaming Design (aka video game design) course. Both begin in January.

As the Phoenix area continues population growth and the HVAC industry faces retirement of baby boomer workers, demand for qualified, trained personnel is expected to continue to grow by 20% or more over the next 10 years, according to the Arizona Department of Economic Security employment figures.

In direct response to this need, and to meet demand from students to receive high-quality training but be ready to enter the workforce quickly, GateWay has created a new fast-track nine month Residential Air Conditioning certificate program. The program offers college credit and all the credits apply to the full HVACR certificate and Associate Degree, so each course counts toward the advanced certificate or degree if the student wishes to continue their education at GateWay.

“We understand the importance of training highly qualified and skilled workers to the industry, and at the same time, students want to get started on their career and move quickly through our program,” said Dr. Clyde Perry, program director for the HVACR program at GateWay. “We believe this newly created Residential Air Conditioning program will meet everyone’s needs and provide a pathway for students to continue their education.”

The Electronic Gaming Design Course, CIS107, covers hands-on programming, design ideas and game types and the business side of the industry. The 3-credit course begins January 17, with another section of the course beginning January 18.

Tuition at GateWay Community College, one of 10 Maricopa Community Colleges, is very affordable at $65 per credit hour. The first official day of classes for the spring 2007 semester is January 13. Visit www.gatewaycc.edu or call 602-286-8600 for more information.
