Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION:

How can I work with the grant team?

Answer:  If you have a project idea for which you would like to seek grant funding, please contact us to discuss the project.  Once we have information about the project idea, we can work with you to identify potential funding sources and to develop a proposal.  If you have identified a funding source you would like to approach, or if you have received a request for proposals or grant application to which you would like to respond, please contact us so that we can coordinate the effort and help you develop and submit the proposal.

QUESTION:

I already have a project and funder in mind.  Do I need to go through the grants office?

Answer:  Yes.  The College has determined that all grant requests need to be coordinated through the grants office.  This accomplishes the following:  1. We coordinate proposals to ensure that departments are not competing against one another in the same grant proposal cycle, thus hurting both departments’ chances of success.  2.  We help you to navigate the grant process, including coordinating the details of grant submission, meeting the grant program’s priorities, preparing forms, determining appropriate attachments, submitting multiple copies, and acquiring the necessary College and District approvals.  3.  We ensure that all proposals and grant-funding project can be accurately recorded and managed.  4.  We serve as a central contact for funding sources to make it easier for them to get questions answered and send new requests for submission.  5.  We ensure that all requests are appropriate to College policies and priorities.

QUESTION:

I have an idea, how do I find funding?

Answer:  Please contact us as soon as possible.  We have access to many sources and directories that list funders and their priority focus. We will help as much as possible given whatever deadlines we are working toward, projects we are developing, and institutional needs and priorities.

QUESTION:

I want a grant.  Will you write a proposal for me?

Answer:  Proposals are most successful when they are developed by the individual(s) who will be directly implementing a project.  However, we will work with you through every step of the way to develop a succinct proposal that matches the program guidelines.  We also may have information and statistics that can help you prepare a better argument of why your proposal should be funded.
