Biography of Dr. Giovannini
Since March of 2002, Dr. Eugene Giovannini has served as President of GateWay Community College, an urban community college of 16,000 annual student enrollments and a skill center with 6,000 annual student enrollments. The College employs over 500 faculty and staff members. GateWay Community College is one of the ten colleges in the Maricopa Community College District.
Dr. Giovannini was previously the Vice President at Burlington County College in Pemberton, New Jersey, from 1995 to 2002. He was responsible for all academic and student affairs programs and services, as well as community services, and credit and non-credit programs at a multi-campus community college.
From 1990 to 1995, Dr. Giovannini served as Dean of Instructional Affairs and, subsequently, as Interim Director of Student Services at Ivy Tech State College-Southwest, Evansville, Indiana.
Dr. Giovannini holds a Doctor of Education degree in Community College Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University at Blacksburg, Virginia. In addition, he has done post-doctoral work in Executive Education at Wharton Institute for Research on Higher Education at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds both Master of Education and Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Education from Bloomsburg University at Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Giovannini is an active member of many community and civic organizations. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Arizona Community College Presidents’ Council; Board Member of both the Phoenix Community Alliance and the City of Phoenix Workforce Connection Board; and, an Executive Director of the East Valley Think Tank. He is an active member of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council; Tempe Chamber of Commerce; Phoenix Chamber of Commerce; and, the Valley of the Sun United Way. Dr. Giovannini’s other professional association affiliations include the American Association of Community Colleges, American Association of Higher Education, American Technical Education Association, and the National Council for Occupational Education.
